June A. Kniffen
June A. Kniffen, 93, lifelong resident of Nashwauk, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at Hillcrest Alice Assisted Living in Hibbing. She was born on June 7, 1922, to Thomas and Caroline (Johnson) Hagen in Grand Rapids, MN. She married Elmer Kniffen on November 12, 1943, in Pittsburgh, CA. Temporarily, June worked for the railroad in Ogden, UT. A homemaker by trade, June was an active member in her community. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary post in Nashwauk where she was a past commander. She took many senior citizens field trips, was in various church circles, and was a member of her local garden club. June’s lifelong work was helping others. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was the “glue” of her family.
She is survived by her special nieces and nephews: Carolyn (Jim) Sundeen, Princeton, MN, Thomas D. (Margaret) Hagen, Nashwauk, MN, and Donna Kangas, Nashwauk; nine great-nieces and nephews; many more nieces and nephews; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Caroline; her husband, Elmer, in 1997; two sisters: Katheryn Perkins, and Corrine Johnson; a brother, Thomas Hagen Jr.; and a nephew, David Johnson.
Funeral services for June will be held at 11:30am, Monday, September 21, 2015, at Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Deacon Richard Johnston will officiate. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 10:00am until the 11:30am funeral service.
Interment will be in Nashwauk Cemetery. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
