Katherine L. Zeiher, 89, Hibbing, died Sat. November 3, 2012, in her home surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 16, 1922 to Roy and Vera Buchanan in Sisseton, SD. She graduated from Graceville, MN High School in 1940. She attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN where she became a laboratory and x-ray technician. She worked for 1 year at a clinic in Sparta, WI prior to her marriage to William L. Zeiher who was in the US Navy. They were married in Atlantic City, NJ in 1944. She was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church where she taught religious education for 10 years. She was a member of the Mesaba Country Club and the Hospital auxiliary. She loved golf and bridge and above all her family, grandchildren and friends.
She is survived by children William (Anne) Zeiher of Ashburn, VA, Robert (Mary) Zeiher of Hibbing, MN, Barbara Zbacnik of San Diego, CA, Beverly (Scott) McDowell of Hibbing, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, her sisters; Helen (Les) Reitz of Mesa, AZ and Kay Buchanan of Austin, MN, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1999, her parents Roy and Vera Buchanan and her brother Murray Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to North Stare Hospice or to the Blessed Sacrament Church.
