Kim Provinzino Zauhar
Kim Provinzino Zauhar, 73, Nashwauk, died Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Grand Village Nursing Home, Grand Rapids. She was born in Tucson, AZ on May 8, 1940 to Doyle and Nell Givens. She attended Nashwauk grade school and graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1958. Kim attended Arizona State University and graduated in 1964, with a B.S. in Nursing. She was united in marriage to Dominic “Mecco” Provinzino in 1965, and they made their home in Nashwauk. Kim was employed at Doctor’s Hospital in Phoenix and worked as a student and graduate nurse at Hibbing General Hospital. She later worked at University Medical Center—Mesabi as a newborn nursery nurse for 24 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk. Kim was an excellent Finnish cook who learned to cook Italian meals for her family and neighborhood friends. If you ever heard the cowbell ring, you knew Kim was cheering for her boys at a sporting event. In 1990, she married John Zauhar.
She is survived by three sons: Tim (Anita) Provinzino of Chisholm, Paul Provinzino of Cohasset, and Tony (Toni Henderson) Provinzino of Comstock, MN; two step-daughters, Michelle (Bill) Smith of Austin, TX, and Jean (Kevin) Hammelev of Glendale, AZ; eight grandchildren: Whitney, Teagan, and Dominic Provinzino, Rosemary (Brent) Hall, Ariel and Ariann Smith, and Matthew and Lauren Hammelev; and a great-grandson, David John Hall, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Dominic J. Provinzino in 1985 and John Zauhar on Aug.. 6, 2013; by her father, F. Doyle Givens in 1948; and by her mother, Nell Koren in 1994.
Visitation will be Monday, September 9, 2013, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Nashwauk, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.
