Kurt R. Zuidmulder
Kurt R. Zuidmulder, 48, Hermantown, formerly of Hibbing, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, in Duluth. He was born on Feb. 27, 1967, in Wakefield, MI to Ward “Zeke” and Carole Zuidmulder. Kurt graduated from Hibbing High School in 1985 and from the University Of North Dakota, where he was a letter winner on the Fighting Sioux football team. He was united in marriage to Kerrie Bateman on Aug. 31, 1991, in Grand Rapids and they made their home in Hibbing for 18 years, moving to Hermantown in 2009. Kurt was currently a paraprofessional at Hermantown High School. He had been a coach of multiple sports at Hibbing High School, Hibbing Community College, and Hermantown High School. He was also involved with youth sports and had served as an umpire and referee for many years. Kurt loved fishing trips with friends and family and enjoyed spending time with his many coaching buddies. He was a member of the “Doctor Phillips Gang” and Fast Lyn’s Fish Camp as well as the Second Weekend Vermilion Crew. He was an inductee of Hibbing High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Kurt is survived by his wife, Kerrie, of Hermantown; a son, Kole Zuidmulder, of Hermantown; his father, Zeke Zuidmulder, of Proctor; siblings, Tim (Laurie) Zuidmulder and Jane (Wade) Siekkinen, both of Champlin, MN; his mother-in-law, Peg Bateman, of Hibbing, MN; nephews Mark (Jamie), Christopher, and Robert Zuidmulder; and nieces Ann Siekkinen and Holly (Gust Abdalla) Siekkinen; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother; by his father-in-law, Noel Bateman; and by a brother-in-law, Noel Bateman, Jr.
