Larry G. Stimac
Larry G. Stimac, 91, longtime resident of Hibbing died Monday August 11, 2014 at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing. He was born on July 30, 1923 to William and Margaret (Klobuchar) Stimac in Copper City, MI. He was a graduate of the Calumet High School in Calumet, MI, in June of 1941. After graduating from high school, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. From December of 1943 until 1945, Larry served 18 months in the Southwest Pacific area. After the War, he returned to academics, where he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University in June of 1950. He entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Lorna Cole in April of 1955. He later took on a career with Davy McKee, an engineering construction firm for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He was their Construction Manager in the Hibbing, MN office. He was a registered engineer with the State of Minnesota, a member of the VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing, and the Hibbing American Legion. Larry was known for his great cooking skills. He was a loving person to many. His pastimes were sports, he loved to read, and he loved his dogs, “All of them!”
He is survived by his two sons, Daniel P. (Gwen) Stimac, Broken Arrow, OK, and Mark M. (Marie) Stimac, Hibbing, grandson, Bradley Michael Stimac of Hibbing his sister, Francis Nordstrom, Livonia, MI, , also surviving are 30 nephews and nieces and their offspring, some of whom are scattered from Bangkok to Budapest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorna (Cole) Stimac in 2005, five sisters, infant; Mary Stimac, Veronica Brisky, Ludmilla Huber, Alvena Corcoran and Margaret Jermaine, six brothers, infant; John Stimac, Peter Stimac, Roy Stimac, Joseph Stimac, Vincent Stimac, and Michael Stimac.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 11:00am, Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Brian Lederer will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
