Lauretta M. Haverkamp

Lauretta M. Haverkamp, 99, Hibbing, died Monday April 4, 2016, at Guardian Angels Health Care Center, Hibbing.  She was born in Penobscot Location near Hibbing on May 22, 1916, to James and Margaret McCabe.  Lauretta graduated from Hibbing High School and was united in marriage to Ivan Haverkamp on April 14, 1936.  She had done catering and also worked in the kitchen at Hibbing General Hospital for many years.  Lauretta and Ivan were active in the building of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and she was a member of the Council of Catholic Women.  In her younger years, Lauretta enjoyed local volleyball leagues, dance club, and time spent at Hibbing Memorial Building with the Hibbing Senior Citizens.   She also loved being outdoors: camping and fishing were favorite activities.

She is survived by three children:  Patricia “Pat” (Anders W.) Stone of Chisholm, Francis (Susan) Haverkamp of Nashwauk, and Robert (Carol) Haverkamp of Side Lake; by 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews.  Lauretta was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; by her parents; by seven brothers and six sisters; and by grandsons Mark Stone and Alex Stone.

Visitation will be Tuesday April 12, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hibbing, from 9:30 AM until the 11 AM funeral Mass.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  Lauretta’s family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angels for the excellent care they gave her.  To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com .
