Laverne “Lolly” Fryckman
Laverne “Lolly” Fryckman, 95, Hibbing, passed away on Sunday September 16, 2012, in Hibbing. He was born in Fort Snelling, MN on January 26, 1917, to Oscar and Adeline Fryckman. Laverne was united in marriage to Josephine Techar on September 6, 1941 in Hibbing. As a member of the US Army Air Corps, Laverne was stationed in India and Burma during World War II. He was one of the original organizers and coaches for Hibbing Little League, had coached youth hockey for the Cobb Cook team, and retired as a foreman from US Steel.
Laverne is survived by his wife of 71 years, Josephine, of Hibbing; a son, Bob (Susan) Fryckman of Big Lake, MN; a sister, Lorraine Lawrie of Iowa; a granddaughter, Tracie (Steven) Fryckman—Atkinson of Big Lake, MN; 3 great-grandchildren: Keegyn, Kerregyn, and Kortlynd Atkinson; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ruth Perry, Manley Fryckman, Lester Fryckman, Irene Olds, Earl Fryckman, William Fryckman, and Myrtle Bye.
In lieu of a funeral service, a time of sharing of memories will be held at 1 PM Friday September 21, 2012, in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing. Visitation will be Friday from 11AM—1 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing, with full military honors accorded by VFW Post 8510 Color Guard.
