Leland H. Erickson, 90, Virginia, MN, passed away May 1, 2015, at Essentia Health Care Center in Virginia, MN.
Leland was born June 11, 1924, in Roland, Iowa, son of Bert and Monica Erickson. He grew up in Thor and attended school there. He joined the Army in November of 1944, and served two years in the Pacific during World War II. He married Dorothy Sauter on July 3, 1954. They lived in Fridley where he worked for Valspar Paints until he retired. After he retired, they moved to Mt. Iron, MN. Leland loved hunting, fishing and camping with his motorhome. He loved feeding the deer, birds, and gardening.
Leland is survived by several nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law: Lois Anderson, Jill Peterson, and June Erickson; and a brother-in-law, Donald Sauter. He was preceded in death by his parents; by four brothers: Amos, Benny, and Sam Erickson and David Peterson; and by two sisters, Lucille Swanson and Mary Rivers.
Memorial Service will be held 1:30 PM on Monday May 11, 2015, at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing, MN with Rev. Donald Norr officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30—1:30 PM in the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Buhl with full military honors accorded by Mid-Range Honor Guard.
