Leone U. Olson
Leone U. Olson, formerly of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Tuesday, February 4th, 2014, surrounded by her family, at the Bishop Noa Nursing Home in Escanaba, MI.
Leone was born on October 24th, 1923, in Clara City, MN, the daughter of Joe and Clara Ulferts. She graduated from Clara City High School in 1941 and went on to attend St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN, graduating with a degree in Physical Education in 1945. Leone taught Gym/Health/Science in Annandale, MN, for two years.
On June 07, 1947, Leone married Henry (Heinie) Olson in Clara City, MN. She and Heinie moved to Deer River in 1948 where Leone taught PhyEd for five years until her first son Wade was born.
In 1954, Leone and Heinie moved to Hibbing, MN, where she took on the role of housewife and mother. Leone taught evening exercise classes for ten years. She taught Sunday school, along with Vacation Bible School for many years at Grace Lutheran Church. Leone was active in her church guild, bible study, and the church library which was her passion and favorite past time.
Leone is survived by sons: Wade (Dianne Eskra), Cedar Falls, IA; Blake(Debra Peloquin), Gladstone, MI; Kent (Karen Motzko), Burnsville, MN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Eric (Laura) Olson, Denver, CO; Sara Olson, Moorhead, MN; Laura (Jason) LaFave, Lake Geneva, WI; Rachel(Jesse) Henkle, Grundy Center, IA; Beccy (Grant) Adams, MPLS, MN; Bethany (Nolan) Hovland, Wilton, IA; Ben and Jacob Olson, Burnsville, MN. Five great-grandchildren: Owen and Landon LaFave; Raya Henkle; Adelaide and Louis Adams along with Baby Olson and Baby Henkle due in June. Leone is also survived by one sister: Joanie Mills of Carlisle, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Heinie, brothers Raymond, Russell, Wayne, and sisters Clara, Fernie, Ruthie, Pearl, Roma, and Hazel.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Leone U. Olson will take place on Saturday, February 15th, 2014, at 11 AM, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing, MN, with the Rev. Tim Yearyean officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service. Burial will take place at the Hibbing Cemetery.
