Lorraine Ann Scofield
Lorraine Ann Scofield, 91, lifelong Hibbing resident, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Fairview University Medical Center—Mesabi, Hibbing.  She was born September 6, 1920,  in Chisholm to Peter and Doris Bye.  Lorraine attended Chisholm High School and in earlier years had done clerical work at the Montgomery Wards Office, Mesaba Clinic, and Central Laundry in Hibbing, as well as being a loving mother and homemaker.  In her later years, Lorraine served as president of the local American Legion Auxiliary, Post 222 as well as the state 8th district chapter president of the American Legion in 1989—1990.  She also served as the general chairperson for “Desert Storm—Operation Hometown” in 1991.  Lorraine was both spiritual and patriotic and loved God and her country.  She was also a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, VFW Post 1221 Ladies Auxiliary and the National Catholic Society of Foresters.  Lorraine enjoyed reading, poetry, and tending her flower garden.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara (John) Frankson of Side Lake, MN; a son, David (Ayla) Scofield of Petaluma, CA; a sister, Merry Ellen Toivola of Nashwauk, MN; 3 sisters-in-law, Caroline Bye of Duluth, MN, Delia Bye of Chisholm, MN and Lorraine Sixberry of Side Lake, MN; 4 grandchildren:  Jeffrey, Daphne, John Christopher, and Treacy; 6 great-grandchildren:  Henry, Lorraine, Zane, Lila, Ruby, and Tierney; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Scofield in 1985; her parents; brothers Roger, Peter, and Francis Bye; and her sister Margaret Chubiz.
Memorial Mass will be 1 PM Saturday May 12, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing.  Visitation will be Saturday in the church from 12 Noon until 1 PM.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home.  To sign the guestbook online, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com.  Memorials are preferred to the Assumption School Building Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
