Louis S. Sella Jr., longtime Hibbing resident died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm.
I was born to Emma and Louis Sella on June 18, 1923. My family called me “Geno”. In 1941, I graduated from Nashwauk High School. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1947. I served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946, where I sustained injuries in Climbach, France during the Battle of the Bulge. I married Edna Larson in 1946. We settled in Hibbing and raised four children.
I worked for M. A. Hanna from 1948 to 1965 in various engineering capacities, including the establishment of mining operations in Brazil from 1961 to 1963. I left Hanna in 1965 to work for Continental Sales and Equipment Co. as a sales and mechanical engineer, dealing with mining equipment. I retired in 1986.
I was an avid curler and served as President of the Hibbing Curling Club, where I was also a member of the Board of Directors. I was chairman of the First and Second Last Chance Bonspiels. I was Vice President of the State Curling Association and served on their Board of Directors as well.
During 1975, I was president of the Hibbing United Way and served on their Board of Directors for many years. I was also past president of the Hibbing Algonquin Club. I belonged to the Engineering Club of Northern Minnesota and served on their Board of Directors. I was also a longtime member of AIME as a registered engineer.
My mother and father, my wife Edna, my brother “Bunny” (John), my sisters “Mena” (Jacky Kaasa) and “Goya” (Gloria Burich), my son Jim, and my son-in-law Steve Raas have all gone before me. I am survived by my sister Gilda Richards, my sister-in-law Lois Larson, my children-Jeffrey Sella, Sandra Raas, and Susan Kornovich, my daughters-in-law-Marge Sella and Jamie Lambert, my son-in-law Larry Kornovich, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday November 3, 2017 in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be in Church for one hour before Mass. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Mid-Range Honor Guard.
