Louise H. Puhek
Louise H. Puhek of Hibbing, age 89, died on January 21, 2013 in Duluth after a brief stay at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Louise Hace Puhek was born May 5, 1923, in Slovenia to Neza and Louis Komidar. In 1942, she married Janez Hace who was killed during World War II. She and her son, John Hace, came to Chisholm in 1957. In August 1969, she married John Puhek and moved to Hibbing. He passed away in 1994.
She worked for many years at the Chisholm shirt factory and was active with Slovenian women cooking and baking foods for all occasions. She was eager to share her recipes for strudel, potica and sarmas with all who wanted to learn, in particular with her daughter-in-law as well as her grandchildren hoping that they would continue the Slovenian heritage/traditions, and it worked. She was active in St. Joseph’s Church Chisholm as well as the Blessed Sacrament Church of Hibbing.
Louise is survived by son, John (Joanne) Hace of Chaska, MN; her three grandsons: Brian (Elizabeth) of Victoria, MN , Kevin (Kristi) of Portland, OR, and Scott (Heidi) of Denver, CO; and great grandchildren: Henry, Madeline, Matt, Sam, Will, and Lauren Hace. Also surviving are her brother, Lojze (Zofija) Komidar of Slovenia; and many nieces and nephews in Slovenia. She was also loved, respected and appreciated by the family of John Puhek. She was very proud of both the Hace and Puhek family members and enjoyed bragging about their accomplishments in life.
