Lucilla Marie Toenyan

Lucilla M. Toenyan, 84, longtime resident of Hibbing died Friday, March 22, 2019 at St. Michael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia, MN.  She was born July 25, 1934 to Anton and Frances (Tschida) Fladung in Elrosa, MN.  Lucilla entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Richard Toenyan on June 30, 1956 in Blackduck, MN.  They then moved to Hibbing in 1956 where they raised their family and were together for nearly 63 years.  She was employed with St. Louis County with Home Health Services.  Lucilla was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  She was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1221, and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.  Additionally, Lucilla was the director at the Hibbing Community Senior Center for over 4 years.  Her husband Richard and herself also established and ran the Swan Lake Campground from 1969-1980.

She is survived by husband, Richard Toenyan, Hibbing, son, Duane (Betty) Toenyan, Prior Lake, MN, daughter, Joyce Toenyan, Hibbing, brother, Jerome (Nancy) Fladung, Red Lake, MN, sister, Valeria Thielman, New Prague, MN, four grandchildren, Kate (Thad) Riggle, Hibbing, MN, Teresa (Sam) Sajevic, Hibbing, Stephanie Otero, Bovey, MN, and Elizabeth (Mike) Toenyan-Magnusson, Moorhead, MN, three step-grandchildren, Rob (Patti) Gutzke, Nikki (Mike) Thraen, Jayson Gutzke,  8 great-grandchildren, Duncan and Lorelei Riggle, Vincent, Rose, Charles, and George Sajevic, Kia Foggle, and Hope Otero, and one on the way, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 7 siblings, Mary, Norbert, Hildagard, Alfred, Florentine, Alvina, and infant brother, Walter.

Funeral services for Lucilla will be 11 am Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
