Margaret A. Allen
Margaret A. Allen, 93, Hibbing, died Thursday, September 19, 2013, in her home. She was born in Hibbing on June 15, 1920, to Paul and Eva Ayotte. With her husband, Robert, she was one of the first people to move into Silver Bay when Reserve Mining Company opened there. Among several other places, Margaret worked at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Post 8510 of Hibbing, and a longtime resident of the Seventh Avenue Apartments. Margaret also was the recipient of the President’s Call to Service Award. She volunteered 4000 hours over the course of her lifetime to serve others at home or abroad.
She is survived by a sister, Bernice Lillquist of Hibbing; four children: Roberta Swanson of St. Cloud, MN, Robert (Margie) Allen of Spanaway, WA, Debra (Tom) Larson of Sheboygan Falls, WI, and Lynn Allen of Kentfield, CA, several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen; a son, Richard Allen; and her parents.
