Marian C. Newman

Marian C. Newman, 88, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm.  She was born on July 1, 1928 to Peter J. and Josephine (Blazina) Chopp in Leetonia.  She was employed as a retail sales clerk for J.C. Penny.  She was a member of Hibbing Catholic Community, TOPS, and volunteered for many funeral lunches.  She was also a proud member of local bowling leagues years ago.  She loved yardwork, gardening, bowling, socializing with her friends over coffee, and was well known by family and friends as the “Queen of Poticas”.

She is survived by her children; Lloyd E. Newman, Stillwater,  Ronald Newman, Hibbing, Laura (Arlyn) Lignell, Toivola,  and Rosalyn (Ralph) Barker, Side Lake, ten grandchildren;  Shaundrea, Nikki, Rachael, Hayley, Carla, Megan, Leanne, Josh, Sarah, and Luke, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her dear friend, Angela.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd, two sisters, Frances Stanich, and Irene Valentini, brother, Stanley Chopp, daughter in law Mary, and her great-granddaughter, Riley Nicolle.

Funeral services for Marian will be 11:00 am, Monday, January 2, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Nick Nelson will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Monday.  A private family interment will take place on Tuesday at Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
