Marilyn Jean Vanek, 73, Hibbing, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, in her home. She was born in Hibbing on Sept. 15, 1943, to Lawrence and Beulah Zelinski and attended Hibbing schools. She had worked in adult home foster care as a homecare specialist.
She is survived by three children: Don (Kim) Johnson of Chisholm; and Cheryl (Jeff) Samson and Carol Mulner, both of Hibbing; by three step-children: Tom (Marla) Vanek of Monticello, Barb Alle of St. Paul, and Joe (Dawn) Vanek of Hinckley; by five grandchildren: Ashley (Josue) Johnson, Emily Johnson, Tyler (Mercedeez) Samson, Kaitlyn (Nate) Vrchota, and Cameron Mulner; five great-grandchildren: Bentley, Emma, Jaxon, Kaden, and Aniya; and by numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Vanek; her parents; and a brother, William Zelinski.
