Marvin George Imbertson
Marvin George Imbertson, 75, of Hibbing, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Chisholm, MN. He was born on June 29, 1938, to George and Margaret Imbertson. He spent his formative years in Hibbing, earning his pilot's license while attending Hibbing High School and working part time for Range Flying Service. After graduating high school in 1957, Marvin attended Hibbing Junior College and served in the United States Air Force. He went on to attend Northrop Institute of Technology in Inglewood, CA, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. While working for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co in Long Beach Ca as a Flight Development Engineer, Marv received recognition for his work on the DC-10 test aircraft. In 1973, he moved his family to Florida, and took a position as an experimental engineer with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. He was responsible for engine development on the Mach 3 Air Force SR-71 Aircraft. In addition to his passion for airplanes, Marvin had a lifelong love of music, and was a gifted musician, playing the accordion, guitar, and harmonica. He moved back to his childhood home in Hibbing after retirement, and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his four daughters: Kristine Gum of Pooler, GA, Caryn (Brian) Raming, of Mt. Gilead NC, Bethany Buchsbaum (Michael), of Lawrenceville, GA, and Susan (Shawn) Deiger, of Kearney, NE; a sister, Barbara (Don) Bergerson, of Duluth, MN; a brother Don (JoAnne), of Side Lake, MN; and his grandchildren, Jonathan Gum, Nathan, Racheal, and Holland Raming, Matthew and Joshua Buchsbaum, and Austin Deiger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the funeral Mass. Visitation will be in the church from 10am until the service time on Saturday. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home.
