Marvin A. Waara, 76, longtime resident of Hibbing died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Essentia St. Mary’s in Duluth, MN.  He was born on May 25, 1938 to Albin and Aune (Ronne) Waara in Two Harbors, MN.  A graduate of Nashwauk High School, Marvin enlisted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country overseas.  After returning home, Marvin entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Carol Strafaccia on December 31, 1962, in Hibbing at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  He later was employed with Hibbing Taconite as a mechanical foreman.  He was a member of VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, Maple Hill Club and AA.  His pastimes were playing cribbage, word scramble, and crossword puzzlesl  He loved playing the game Joker, fishing, having coffee with his friends and family, vacationing with Carol in Florida during the winter months over that past 7 years, reading the Hibbing Daily Tribune, baking with rhubarb, and he especially enjoyed being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol Waara, Hibbing; son, Terry (Mary Peterson) Waara, Moorhead, MN; his grandson, Wes Waara, Moorhead; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Johanix, Spring Lake Park, MN, Betty Strafaccia, Woodbury, MN, and Mary Waara, Minneapolis, MN; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albin and Aune (Ronne) Waara; two brothers, Delbert and Rodney Waara; and his sister, Sandy Cook.
Funeral services for Marvin will be held at 11:00am, Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Monday.  Interment will be in the Maple Hill Columbarium in Hibbing.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
