Mary Sogard

Mary A. (Forti) Sogard age 82 of Hibbing, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 1, 2024
at Guardian Angels Health and Rehab Center. She was born April 24, 1942 to
Vincent and Anna (Maras) Forti in Hibbing. She was a 1960 graduate of Hibbing
High School, she then attended Hibbing Junior College. In 1965 Mary was joined
in marriage to Delano Sogard. Mary was a community volunteer, she loved
playing tennis and driving her Jeep. Family was very important to Mary; she was
close with her siblings throughout her life and always volunteered at her children’s
events. She enjoyed travelling, especially to Europe and to Sanibel Island, FL
where she spent time with her children and grandchildren. Mary loved being up at
the cabin at Side Lake, entertaining, having Saturday night wine time and most
importantly the Labor Day get togethers where the family would gather and
celebrate their Italian Heritage, making pizzas in the brick oven built by Del and
Mary’s father Vincent. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching sports on
television. Mary is survived by her children, Jennifer (Corey) Janiksela, Bemidji,
MN, Vince (Peggy) Sogard, Becker, MN, Christine Johnson, Woodbury, MN,
siblings, Elizabeth Bishop, Duluth, MN, Barbara (Carver) Richards, Gilbert, MN,
Tom (Mary Lou) Forti, Hibbing, MN, grandchildren, Michael Sogard, Julia
Sogard, Vince Johnson, Claire Johnson, many dear friends, close cousins, nieces,
nephews and extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Vincent and Anna, husband, Delano, sisters, Virginia “Ginny: Forti and Linda
Forti. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12 noon Friday, May 10, 2024 at
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour
prior to the mass at church. Interment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery
Columbarium in Hibbing.
