Melvin E. Elj, 82, Nashwauk, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home.  He was born in Pool Location to Ernest and Edla Elj on July 13, 1931.  Melvin was a veteran having served in the US Army and had been employed as a Maintenance Mechanic for Butler Brothers.  He enjoyed deer hunting, visiting with family and friends especially the grandchildren, and having coffee downtown almost every day.    Melvin loved the fish Wayne would bring him and the Minnesota Twins.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne (Margaret) Elj and William (Bonnie Kangas) Elj, both of Nashwauk, brother, Maynard (Sheri) Elj, Nashwauk, sister Grace Whitman, Hoyt Lakes, 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Besides his parents Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Donna in 2000, son, Walter Elj, daughter, Vera Elj, and infant daughter, Johana Maria Elj, and a sister Gladys Hummel.
Funeral services  will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 25, 2013  in the First Lutheran Church, Hibbing, MN,  with the Rev. Larry Quanbeck officiating.  Visitation will be in Church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
