Michael Jeffrey Baumgardner
Michael J. Baumgardner, 45, Hibbing, ended his nine year battle with ALS peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Fairview University Medical Center—Mesabi, Hibbing. He was born in Hibbing on May 15, 1967, to Greg and Helen Baumgardner. Michael graduated from Hibbing High School in 1985, and then from Hibbing Technical College and Alexandria Vo-Tech. He worked as an automotive technician at many area dealerships, most recently at Hibbing Chrysler Center. He loved the Hibbing Raceway and had worked in the pits for many years, mainly as part of the Waseleski Racing Team.
Michael is survived by his parents, Greg and Helen Baumgardner, of Hibbing; two brothers: Jeff (Suzie) Baumgardner of Barrington, NH and Gary (Trina) Baumgardner of Hibbing; a niece, Brittney Baumgardner, two nephews, Brett Baumgardner and Sam Baumgardner; many wonderful friends; his special “little pals;” numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; his loving nursing and homecare staff; and his buddy, Kozmo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Baumgardner, Jr., in 1970; nephews Branden and Brady Baumgardner; and grandparents Jim and Eleanor Baumgardner and Samuel and Agnes Black.
Visitation will be Friday November 9, 2012, from 9:30-11 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Private family interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the ALS Association, Minnesota Chapter, www.alsmn.org.
