Michael C. Jerkovich Jr.

Michael C. Jerkovich Jr., 75, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Sunday, April 29, 2018 with family by his side at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing.  He was born on March 20, 1943 to Michael and Mary (Maras) Jerkovich Sr. in Hibbing.  After high school, Michael proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy.  Upon returning home from the military, Michael entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Marcella Kalis on May 15, 1965 in North Prairie, MN.  Michael was employed as a painter for EVTAC Mining Company.  He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, the Knight of Columbus, a lifetime member of the Moose, and the Maple Hill Community Club.  He really enjoyed crafts, fishing, hunting, playing poker, the casino, family time with Crown Royal, and especially coffee with the guys at Hardees in Hibbing.  Michael was known for having a unique persona about him and would never hesitate to give people a hard time, and in turn would reluctantly receive it right back.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella “Marcy” Jerkovich, Hibbing, six children, Mary (Mark) Garrelts, Hibbing, David (Tammy) Jerkovich, Hibbing, Carolyn (Mike) Koskela  Eveleth, MN, Donald (Jessica) Jerkovich, Columbia Heights, MN, Michael Jerkovich, Hibbing, and Todd (Jennell) Jerkovich, Hibbing, two sisters, Frances Erickson, Chisholm, MN, and Sandra (Don) Johnson, Taylors Falls, MN, nineteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Susan Garrelts, parents, Michael and Mary (Maras) Jerkovich Sr, brother, Clifford Jerkovich, and his sister, Yvonne Thronson.

Funeral services for Michael will be 12:00 noon, Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be from 10:30 am until the 12:00 noon Mass at the church on Thursday.  Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing at a later date.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
