Michael H. Smock, 63, of Hibbing, MN, passed away peacefully with his family by his
side on September 21, 2024.
Born in Hibbing on December 30, 1960, to Ernest and Eileen (Sanders) Smock, Michael had
a fondness for vehicles. This was evident in his love for fixing up classic cars and
watching NASCAR while hanging out with friends and family. It even extended into
Michael’s early career as a tank mechanic trainee stationed at Ft. Knox, KY in the U.S.
Army. While enlisted, he also volunteered to stand guard at the Ft. Knox Depository and
respectively earned his G.E.D.
In the ensuing years, Michael’s career expanded to include driving a school bus,
working as a cook at the Old Howard, roofing, working for Shubat, driving the church
van for First Assembly of God, and working at Lowe’s. He had been a longtime worker
as a deli cook for Super One before his passing.
Michael enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching TV, and he loved spending time with
his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Jane (Boldt) Smock; children, Adrian
(Samantha) and Ariel (Alan) Smock; siblings, Ernest (Gail), Jim, and Albert Smock, and
Ruth Hrovat; grandchildren, Ash, Eveline, Adrianna, Christopher, and Zoey; and several
nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bruce and Mark Smock; children,
Kasey, Christopher, and Jennifer Smock; and granddaughter, Hope Chamberlin.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on October 4, 2024, at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
Reception will follow at Hibbing Christian Assembly.
