Mildred “Millie” M. Barbato

Mildred M. Barbato, 102, longtime resident of Kitzville passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing.  She was born August 4, 1915 to Sam and Milka (Maljkovich) Markovich in Virginia, MN.  Millie grew up in Eveleth, MN.   She was employed with National T in Hibbing, and also Piggly Wiggly in Chisholm retiring in 1980 at the age of 65.  Millie was very active in her church, a member of St. Vasilije of Ostrog Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Chisholm.   Millie had such a love for God, her family and this country.  She was an officer for 57 years with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1221, and the Italian American Club.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark (Julie) Barbato, Carmel, IN, and John (Lisa) Barbato, Milton, GA, sisters, Mary Mogush, Hopkins, MN, and Dorene Richmond, Woodland Park, CO, three grandchildren, A.J. (Kelly) Barbato, Denver, CO, Alana Barbato, Indianapolis, IN, and Annie Barbato, Indianapolis, IN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony in 1974, parents, two sisters, Anne and Tonska, and three brothers, Peter, David, and Joseph.

Funeral services for Millie will be 11:00am, Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at St. Vasilije of Ostrog Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Chisholm, MN.  Fr. Radomir Plasvic will officiate.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Donations may be made to St. Vasilije of Ostrog Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Chisholm, MN.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
