Mildred Caroline Martin

Mildred C. Martin, 95, Hibbing, died Thursday Oct. 27, 2016, at Fairview Range Medical Center, in Hibbing.  She was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Montevideo, MN to Magnus and Mable (Knutsen) Swenson.  Mildred and Allard Martin were united in marriage on Dec. 6, 1939, and they had lived in Oregon and California before moving to Rossville, Georgia, where she and Allard worked as custodians in a Baptist church for many years.  They later settled in Hibbing.  Mildred had an excellent memory for details and she made friends easily with everyone she met.  Her grandchildren will remember her laugh as well as her kind spirit.  She was loved by many.  Her children feel that everyone should be so lucky to have a mom like theirs.

She is survived by a daughter, Emelie Thronson, of Chisholm; a son, Lynn (Nancy) Martin, of Flint, MI; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; a daughter, Karri Hauan; a son, Larry Martin; her parents; three siblings: Gloria, Richard, and Everett; and a great-grandson, Christopher Janvrin, Jr.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, from 9 AM until the 11 AM funeral service.  Interment will be in 12 Noon on Thursday at Hazel Run Cemetery, Hazel Run, MN.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, Minnesota.  To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com .
