Mildred “Millie” I. Rostvold
Mildred "Millie" Rostvold, 90, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Home Sweet Home in Hibbing. She was born on
February 13
, 1925, to Lillie and Fritz Norberg in Sleeman, Ontario, Canada. She grew up and attended school in Tower-Soudan and graduated at Orr High School. She enlisted in the Navy and served as a Pharmacist’s Mate, Second Class during World War II at Bremerton, Washington.
Mildred married Roy Rostvold of Grygla, MN and Hibbing in 1947, and together they made their home in Hibbing. Mildred was active in Girl Scouts as a leader for over sixty years, many of them with Hibbing Troop 1980. She was a member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a member of the Sons of Norway, the morning walkers group, and a member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Hobby Quilt Club and worked on the monthly news letter. Millie was a child caregiver for working mothers.
She is survived by her fifteen beloved nieces and nephews: Charles Rustvold, Fargo, ND, Joyce Urness, Helena, MT, Violet Siegel, Port Orchard, WA, Bertha (Marvin) Wells, Bloomington, MN, Lloyd Rustvold, Cloquet, MN, Patty Fraze, Cocoa, FL, Richard Rostvold, Pittsburg, TX, Barbara Jusczak, Stacy, MN, Doris Trask, International Falls, MN, Donald Anderson, Arkdale, WI, Conley Anderson, International Falls, MN, Judy Salo, Palm Springs, CA, Gerry Palo, Little Falls, MN, Barbara Andresen, Hermantown, MN, Lois Bristow, Batavia, IL, Eric Norberg, Duluth, MN, Shirley Burritt, Mt. Iron, MN, and Patti Stoddard, Hibbing and Tower, MN. Mildred is also survived by many great nieces and nephews; the Trost family; her special family friend, Etta Palo, Mt. Iron, MN; and her friends from Home Sweet Home in Hibbing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 2010; an infant son, Robin, in 1958; a sister, Elinor Palo; a brother, Eugene Norberg; three infant siblings; and her parents.
Funeral services for Mildred will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Hibbing. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
