Mirko A. Bogdanovich

Mirko A. Bogdanovich, 84, Calumet, loving parent, husband, and grandfather, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing.  He was born in Calumet, MN, to Sam and Mary (Roberts) Bogdanovich on October 14, 1931 and graduated from Greenway High School in 1950.   Mirko was a U. S. Navy veteran from 1950 to 1954 serving on the U.S.S. Wright.  He enjoyed many of the USS Wright reunions.  After the service he attended Bemidji State and graduated with a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts and History. Mirko married Elizabeth Papatola in St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Nashwauk, MN,  on August 10, 1957. He was an Industrial Arts Teacher for 30 years with the Greenway Schools, was an excellent craftsman, master woodcarver, and was an active volunteer in the community. The Christmas decorations that graced his yard were all handmade by him. Mirko was a member of VFW Post 8510 in Hibbing, Past Commander of VFW Post 307 in Calumet, Calumet Fire Dept., the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marble, and St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Bette", sons, Don (Candi), Pengilly, Paul (Lora), Bloomington, MN, and David (Doreen Henry), Hibbing, his daughter, Jill (Craig Wilcox) Bogdanovich, Rifle, Colo., brother, Donald (Lynn) Bogdanovich, Mpls., sister Julie Gram, Beloit, Wis., 2 grandchildren, Renae (Shawn) Schultz and  Becky Cooper, great grandchildren, Joey and Mikayla Schultz, and Daniel, Dejah, and Dain Cooper, step grandchildren, Danielle and Damien.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Bogdanovich, and mother and father in law,  Rose and Dominic Papatola.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am., Saturday, January 30, 2016 in St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk, MN, with the Rev. Fr. Seth Gogolin officiating.  Visitation will be in Church for one hour before Mass.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. The family thanks Guardian Angels for the excellent care Mirko received during his stay there.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home.
