Nellie B. Hofman
Nellie B. Hofman, 99, Hibbing, passed away at Guardian Angels in Hibbing on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015. She was born in the Netherlands on June 21, 1915 and immigrated to the United States at age 13 with her parents and brother. They settled in a Dutch community in South Dakota where she eventually met and married her husband, Case Hofman.
In 1935, they moved to Minnesota where they farmed and raised their family in the Meadowlands and Floodwood area. After the kids left the nest, they sold the farm and moved to Hibbing, where Case was working in the mines.
After retiring, Nellie and Case spent over 20 happy years wintering in Arizona and their summers at the Lake Cabin hosting family and friends. Wherever she lived, Nellie was a favorite person.
She is survived by four children: Ann Horvath of Hibbing, Gertrude (Ron) Hackman of Arizona, Andy (Kay) Hofman of Elmer, MN, and Tony (Cheryle) Hofman of Princeton, MN; a brother, Jake (Ann) Bok of Elmer, MN; daughters-in-law Janice Powers and Lynda Hofman; her faithful friend, Shirley; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many, many great-great-grandchildren, including several blended into the family. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Case Hofman; by their son, William Hofman; by a grandson, Robert Horvath; and by her parents.
