Nellie Mae Palumbo played her last hand of cards, Sunday, March 28, 2021.
She was born March 25, 1930 in Hibbing to Howard and Lydia (Winsor) Lind. Nellie graduated from Cherry High School in 1948. On July 22, 1950 she was joined in marriage to Mike Palumbo at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hibbing. Nellie held many jobs throughout her life, but her favorite job was nannying Nick and Pat Milani, who became like family to her. Nellie was a prankster amongst her family and close friends, a testament to her mischievous spirit was constantly buying gag gifts that would end up on Gary Milani’s (Pat and Nick’s dad) doorstep, even after she lost some of her mobility, she enlisted her daughter Michele to deliver the gifts for her. One of Nellies favorite things to do was play cards especially “Oh Shit” her and her siblings would play together and took no prisoners. Nellie is survived by daughters, Lynne Sabin and Michele (Lonnie Littler) Calder, grandkids, Michael (Jamie Zitzka) Palumbo, Amy Palumbo, and Carrie (Brandon Tracy) Calder, great-grandkids, Andrew, Declan, Christopher Gunnar; sisters, Phyllis (Wayne) Gunderson and Mary Alice (Ken) Carlson; brothers, Moe (Lois) Lind; sister in laws, Barbara Lind & Brenda Lind; bonus family, Gary, Jean, Patrick & Nicholas Milani and Mark, Donna and Maggie Groettum, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Proceeded in death by her husband Mike Palumbo; parents Howard & Lydia Lind; daughter Lorrie Palumbo; grandson, Christopher Calder; siblings Bobby Lind, Billy Lind, Joanne Palumbo, Gus Lind, Albert Lind & most recently Dick Lind.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 12 noon-2:00 pm Friday, April 2, 2021 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Interment will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing at a later date.
