Nick Peter Muhar
Nick P. Muhar, 99, lifelong resident of Keewatin died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Heritage Manor in Chisholm. He was born on December 16, 1916, to Nick G. and Eva (Lulich) Muhar in Aurora, MN. After high school, Nick proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He landed at Utah Beach, saw action at Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and was a part of the European Theatre. After the war, Nick entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Mary Louise Emanuel on September 27, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keewatin. Nick was employed as an electrician for M.A. Hanna and later National Steel Pellet Co. in Keewatin. He was financial secretary for the United Steelworkers Union Local #2660. Nick was a member of the American Legion, VFW of Keewatin, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also on the local Water and Lights Commission. Nick loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, wood carving, hunting, fishing and his antique cars. He also was known for riding his bike in town or, fixing just about anything he got his hands on.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Muhar, Keewatin, MN; children: Jim Muhar, Girdwood, AK, Nick Muhar, Chisholm, MN, Janice Muhar, Bloomington, MN, and Nancy (Michael) Ribich, Grand Rapids, MN; three grandchildren: Jonathan (Dagmara Daibes) Ribich, Girdwood, AK, Karissa (Travis) Metzger, Duluth, MN, and Laura (Jeff Chalupsky) Ribich, Oak Grove, MN; three great-grandchildren: Noah Metzger, Wyatt Metzger, and Juliana Ribich, with two on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Muhar; and sister, Martha Scherping.
Funeral services for Nick will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Mr. Richard Johnston will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service in the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
