Omar Charles Heineman
"Omar STIHL" Heineman, age 92, of Hibbing, MN, passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 13, 2024, at Bayshore Nursing Facility in Duluth, MN. Omar was born in Aitkin, MN, to Conrad and Myrtle "Coyle" Heineman on June 30, 1931. He grew up in Togo, MN, and started working after 8th grade, farming and logging to help support his family. Omar went on to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. Upon discharge, Omar came back to Minnesota where he met and married JoAnna Miller. Omar and his family moved to Burlington, WI, where he drove truck for J.I. Case and eventually moved to Hibbing in 1967. Omar was the epitome of a hard worker; he worked for U.S. Steel as an electrical shop foreman until he semi-retired in 1993, he started "Omar's Stihl" in 1968 and ran his STIHL service and repair business until 2015 and retired at age 84! When not at work, Omar enjoyed lawn mower racing, water skiing, gardening, having coffee and "chewing the fat" with anyone willing. He was known to be a big eater, always filling his plate to the brim and back for seconds, he was a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Omar was a member of the Nashwauk Masons and a fire Warden for the DNR for many years. He adored his family, was a father figure to many and was always available to anyone who needed him. Omar will be greatly missed.
Omar is survived by his children Ed Heineman, Jere (Linda) Heineman, Pat (Chuck) Johnson and Marla (Tom) Vanek, son-in-law Dana Helgeson, brother Terry (Sandy) Heineman, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnna, daughter Donna Helgeson, grandson Kevin Heineman, siblings Harley Heineman, Leona Raskovich, Rosemary Pelkey, Emmerton "Bubby" Heineman, Lois Foley, Chuck Heineman and Mona Kaufman.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Edgewood Vista, Bayshore Residence and Rehab and Ecumen Hospice for all of the great care. Omar's family would also like to thank his daughter, Pat, for all of the extra love and care that she provided towards the end.
