Peter F. Koprivec Sr.
Peter F. Koprivec Sr., 92, lifelong resident of Keewatin died Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Bigfork Valley Communities Home in Bigfork. He was born on August 12, 1920, to Peter and Katie (Medved) Koprivec in Crosby, MN. Peter attended Robert L. Downing High School in Keewatin. After school, Peter proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army, receiving a purple heart at the Battle of the Bulge. He entered the Sacrament of Marriage on May 4, 1943, in Keewatin to Kathryn A. (Markovich) Koprivec, and they were happily married for nearly 70 years. Peter was employed with I.S.D. 319 as a mechanic and school bus driver. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keewatin, the Keewatin VFW Post, the Keewatin American Legion, and the Keewatin Seniors Group. Peter was a dedicated worker, he kept busy all of the time, spending most of his days outdoors gardening into his 90’s. Peter took great pride in growing garlic and his highly successful tomato plants. He loved playing his button box accordion, hunting and fishing, and caring for his many pets throughout his lifetime. He was also an avid Minnesota Viking fan.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Kathryn Koprivec, Keewatin; his children, Kathleen (Peter) Martin, Langley, WA, Peter J. (Sally) Koprivec, Lawrence Lake, MN, Marc (Birdie) Koprivec, Keewatin, and Jean (Peter) Aimonetti, Cottage Grove, MN; his sister, Frances Golla, Mendota Heights, MN; three grandchildren: Wendy Koprivec, Arizona, Jami (John) O’Brien, Texas, and Chris (Ashley) Koprivec, Keewatin; 6 great-grandchildren: William, Gloria, Vinny, Patrick, Colby, and Carson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Katie; his two brothers, Tony and Charles Koprivec; and two sisters, Mary Kruchoski and Annie Koprivec.
Funeral services for Peter will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, January 31, 2013 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk. The Rev. Fr. Dennis Hoffman will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Nashwauk Cemetery in Nashwauk. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
