Philomena M. “Minnie” DeJarlais

Minnie DeJarlais, 90, lifelong resident of Keewatin, died Friday, June 8, 2012, in Hibbing.  She was born in Keewatin on September 4, 1921, to Carlo and Chiarina (DeFonso) Comparoni.  Minnie held various jobs throughout her life at Nutrition World, Sunrise Deli, and her father’s businesses, the Shell Station, and Comparoni’s Grocery Store.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keewatin, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Keewatin Senior Center.  She enjoyed vegetable gardening and her flower gardens.
She is survived by three children: James (Mary) DeJarlais, Shoreview, MN, Carold (Linda Suihkonen) DeJarlais, Jr., Hibbing, and David K. DeJarlais, Vadnais Heights, MN; a sister, Zelinda Hanson, Antioch, CA; three grandchildren: Nathan DeJarlais, Kathryn (Bob) Bongard, and Tara (Michael) Patock; two great-grandchildren, Ashtyn and Tanner Bongard; and a special friend, Duane Bergmann of Pengilly, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carold “Jiggs” DeJarlais, in 1998, her parents and two brothers, Robert Comparoni and Germano “Jimmy” Comparoni.
A funeral Mass for Minnie will be held at 12 Noon on Friday September 14, 2012, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hibbing.  Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 11 AM until 12 Noon.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.  To sign the online guest register, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com.
