Ramon Lindo Bugliosi died at Fairview University Medical Center Mesabi on Saturday, March 2, 2013 surrounded by his wife and three daughters. He was born on January 27, 1930 in Hibbing, the son of Frank and Mary (Passeri) Bugliosi, immigrants from Costaciarro, Italy. He was the fourth of five children and grew up in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Hibbing. As a child he attended the Lincoln School in North Hibbing. He also worked for his uncle, Frank Gambucci, and spent a lot of time hanging out with the guys down at Frank’s. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1947, and went on to get his A.A. degree in Business from Hibbing Community College. He was then drafted into the Korean War and stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX where he worked in personnel and as a tank driver. Upon returning from service, he again attended Hibbing Community College and was very active in the Vets Club. He met Joanne Zlebnik, the “most beautiful girl I ever saw” while she was working as a carhop at Ting-Town restaurant. The two were married in Chisholm on December 27, 1956. The couple then moved to Houghton, MI for Ray to complete his Mechanical Engineering degree at Michigan Tech. After college, he took a job with Boise Cascade in International Falls for a brief period, and then went to work for Arthur G. McKee Co. in Hibbing, where the couple settled to have four children and raise their family. After 15 years at McKee, Ray worked at Abe Mathews Engineering Co. (now Barr Engineering) as Vice President of Engineering until his retirement in 1997. Over the years, Ray was active in the Northern Minnesota Engineer’s club, was on the Hibbing Public Utilities Commission, and was a member of the Hibbing Planning Commission for many years. He was a past member also of the Elk’s Club, Curling Club, Mesaba Country Club, Algonquin Club, and the MAC. Ramon was also a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church. In his younger days, Ray liked to camp, fish, curl, play the guitar and sing funny songs, and was an avid golfer and tennis player. He was also an excellent carpenter all of his life, and with his brothers, built a go-cart, snowmobile, tractor, houses, cabins, and garages for relatives. Ramon could make or fix anything - from the heel of a shoe to a leaky faucet or furnace. During retirement, Ray enjoyed reading, watching Twins games, and spending time with his coffee buddies at the Memorial Bldg. Senior Center. Above all, family was always number one to Ray and he was a great husband, father, and grandfather who will be sorely missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joanne, his three daughters and their families: Kathy (Bob) Nyberg of Hibbing and daughters Nicole (Matt) Anderson, Melissa, and Christine Nyberg; Jane (Jeff) Valley of Forest Lake, MN and children Cody, Jennifer, and Elizabeth Valley; and Dr. Patty Bugliosi (Dr. Andrew Thompson) of Duluth, MN and sons Oscar and Linus Thompson, brothers-in-law, Leo Diachok of Hibbing and Robert Zlebnik of Chisholm, sisters-in-law, Betty Bugliosi and Clara Bugliosi of Hibbing, Marjorie Marum of Boulder, CO and Catherine Ilkka of Hot Springs Village, AR, aunt, Rose Passeri of Hibbing, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
