Raymond E. Lee
Raymond E. Lee, 89, Hibbing died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitaton Center in Hibbing. He was born on February 25, 1924 to Ole and Beatrice (Darst) Lee in Hibbing. A lifetime resident of Hibbing, Raymond graduated from the Hibbing High School. He married Joyce Russell on August 7, 1945 in Hibbing. Raymond proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific. After the war, Raymond came back home and became the co-owner and operator of Range Cornice & Roofing. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. He was the founder of Hibbing Little League in which the Hanson-Lee Little League Field was named in his honor. He was a member of the VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing, the Hibbing Elks Club, the past president of the Hibbing Exchange Club. Raymond was also a 3rd degree Mason, a 14th degree of the Scottish Rite, a member of D.E.S.A., and he was very active in the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Program in Hibbing. Raymond enjoyed reading, he also loved the outdoors; he enjoyed fishing, being a pilot, spending time at Johnson Lake, and truly loved his boat, the “Wet-n-Wild”. Raymond was very fond of his family and would religiously follow his children and grandchildren in all of their activities.
He is survived by his four sons, Ray (Kathy) Lee, Hibbing, Ken (Kay) Lee, Colorado Springs, CO, David (Connie) Lee, and Jeff (Sheri) Lee, both of Hibbing, his daughter, Sharon (Tom) Kern, Maple Grove, MN., his 12 grandchildren, Greg, Amy, Karen, Kimberly, Stephanie, Shawn, Nathan, Adrienne, Caitlin, Aaron, Justine, and Jarrett, 13 great-grandchildren, and his special caregiver, Becky Lee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 1999, his parents, Ole and Beatrice (Darst) Lee, his brother and sister-in-law, Dick (Pat) Lee, his dear grandmother, Stefanie Lee, and his uncle, Chris Lee.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-5pm, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. A service officiated by Rev. Larry Quanbeck will be held at 4:30pm. A reception will follow beginning at 5:30pm at the Crown Ball Room, located at the Old Elks Club on 3rd Avenue and Howard Street in Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Northstar Hospice. A spring interment will be held in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
