Richard "Dick" L. Reger

Richard “Dick” L. Reger, age 77, of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Chisholm, MN. He was born on August 22, 1947, to Martin and Esther (Andre) Reger in Wadena, MN. 

Richard served his country proudly in the Vietnam War as an Army Sergeant. He met his lovely wife Carol in Waseca, MN and they married on August 16, 1969. He graduated from Saint Cloud State University with a bachelor's degree. Together they raised their two children Tom & Jennifer. Richard was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post 8510, and DAV. He was very handy and enjoyed making walking sticks and would hand paint and gift them to his Military friends. Richard enjoyed fishing, grouse hunting, watching the Vikings, vegetable gardening, and shooting clay pigeons on family weekends. 

Richard comes across as a bear, but as you got to know him, you realize he was a large teddy bear at heart! A strong and quiet person whose silence spoke volumes to anyone receptive enough to hear. A generous spirit and a smile that could brighten anyone’s day. 

He is survived by his wife, Carol Reger; children, Tom Reger and Jennifer (Lenny) Petroskey; grand-children, Mya and Isabella Petroskey; sister, Pat Bogart; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members. 

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Glenn (Marilyn) Reger, Robert (Sharon) Reger, Jim (Vi) Reger, Bill (Elaine) Reger; brother-in-law, Bob Bogart; nephews, Kent Reger, Jon Reger, Tim Reger, and niece, Kathryn Steffens.

A Memorial Service for Richard will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Rupp Funeral Home in Chisholm, MN. With Military Honors accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 11:00AM to the 12:00PM service at the funeral home on Saturday. Pastor Tim Yearyean will officiate. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
