Richard “Dick” Hansen

Richard “Dick” Hansen, 87, of Hibbing, passed away, Sat. Sep. 3, 2016 in the Fairview Medical Center, Hibbing.  Dick was born in Hibbing on Nov. 13, 1928 to Julius and Theresa Hansen.

He attended Assumption School and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1946.  After his military service, he attended Hibbing Junior College and the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration.  After graduation he was employed as an accountant for Union Trust Life Insurance Co. in Duluth.  In 1956 he was transferred to their office in Milwaukee, WI, and was appointed comptroller.  He later was elected a vice-president and chief financial officer.  In 1966 the company was merged with National Western Life Ins. Co. and he decided for personal reasons to return to Hibbing.  He became associated with the First National Bank of Hibbing.  He retired from the bank as a vice president and chief operations officer.  He also spent several years working in the accounting dept. at Leisure Hills Health Care Center.

Dick was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  He was a member of the Hibbing Exchange Club and several bank associations.  He served on Hibbing’s Planning and Zoning Commission, the Business Advisory Board at the Hibbing Area Vocational School and was appointed to the Selective Service Board.  He also was an advisor for Junior Achievement.

He is survived by his wife Gerry, 3 step-children: Debra (David) Embree of Randolph, NJ, Robin (Vance) Tesch of Virginia, MN and Mike (Julie) Nelson of Lake Elmo, MN, 3 grandchildren Jen (Nick) Toewe, Rachel (Chris) Kuenzli and Evan Embree along with his granddogs and grandcat.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ray.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing.  Visitation will be in the church from 10 am. until the service time.  Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
