Richard Henry Husmann

Richard Henry Husmann, 90, of Hibbing/Kelly Lake, MN, passed away at the Hibbing Hospital on Saturday, September 16, 2023.  He was born in Monticello, IA, to Henry  and Lulu (Northrup) Husmann on March 29, 1933.  Richard grew up in Backus, MN.  After graduating from Backus High School, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He married Kathleen Anderson, on March 6th, 1965.  They moved to Kelly Lake in the 1960s where they started their family.  Richard's work ethic was excellent, running his own logging and sawmill business out of Side Lake, MN.  He was a longtime shovel operator at the Mahoning Mine and eventually Hibbing Taconite where he retired.  Church was very important to him.  He was an Elder and also helped build the new Grace Lutheran Church.  He also loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family.

 

Richard is survived by his sons; Richard Paul (Dawn) Husmann and Calvin (Jim Mahn) Husmann, grandchildren Kenny Husmann, Krissy (Adam) Warwas, Erin (Ryan) Husmann, Rani (Ryan) Husmann, Hayes Martinez, Tyler (Tawnya) Gustafson and Jeremy (Samantha) Gustafson; great grandchildren Sami Warwas, Liam Warwas, Alaina Husmann, Maddi Husmann, Eli Husmann, BT Husmann, Emma Seopa, Tommy Carmody, Jerzie Gustafson, McKenzie Gustafson, Conner Gustafson, Hunter Gustafson and Aubree Gustafson; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Mae Husmann, his parents, and his brothers Marston and Larry Husmann.

 

Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing, MN.  Pastor Steve Breitbarth will officiate the services.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10AM.  Interment will take place following the service at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing where the Mid Range Honor Guard will perform military honors.
