Richard Allyn “Buddy” Matthiesen Richard A. “Buddy” Matthiesen, 83, of Nashwauk, MN and longtime former resident of Goodland MN, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Guardian Angels Health & Rehab Center, Hibbing, MN, with his wife Juanita “Jeri” Matthiesen at his side. He was born October 23, 1931, the youngest of three children in Goodland to Richard F. and Helen M. (Lorence) Matthiesen. He was nicknamed "Bud" or "Buddy" as a young boy by his father, a fitting nickname he kept throughout his life. He married Jeri on September 14, 1951. He worked at various Iron Ore mines until he and Jeri and two children went to California to visit relatives for two weeks. They stayed in California for 10 years where he worked for Harvey Aluminum Co. manufacturing aluminum tubing. Returning to Goodland with Jeri and four children in 1964, he went to work for Eveleth Taconite retiring in 1986. In retirement, he and Jeri enjoyed traveling with their RV and spent many winters with dear friends in Arizona, Nevada, and Florida. Buddy enjoyed fishing, hunting, cribbage and golfing at Swan Lake Country Club. Bud always loved a good laugh. He very much loved his family, grandchildren and his great granddaughter Laney Bug. He was a member of the Goodland Church for many years. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fairview Range Home Care and Hospice and the staff at Guardian Angels Health and Rehab Center for the kindness and excellent care they provided Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Shirley Harper. Bud is survived by his wife Jeri; sister Joyce Wycoff of Windsor, CA; sons Scott Matthiesen of Hibbing, MN and Kim “Red” Matthiesen of Warba MN; daughters Traci (Tom) Ottmann of Reno NV, and Faith Allyn of Abilene TX; grandchildren Jesse Matthiesen of Chisholm, MN, Andy (Kelly) Matthiesen of Isanti MN, Fran Nelson of Pueblo, CO and Jubal Nelson of Salida, CO; great-granddaughter Laney Marie Matthiesen of Isanti, MN; and his nieces, nephews, relatives and so many friends. Funeral Service: 12:00 p.m. Thursday, April 2nd, 2015, at the Goodland Community Church, Goodland, MN. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Zach McNeil officiating.
