Richard Anthony Nehiba
Richard A. Nehiba, 81, Hibbing, died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center in Bemidji, MN.  He was born in Hibbing on June 2, 1930, to John and Margaret Nehiba.  Richard graduated from Hibbing High School and had served in the US Air Force from 1951—1955.  He was united in marriage to Joan Sandberg on March 30, 1951 in Wichita Falls, TX and they eventually made their home in Hibbing.  Richard had worked for the M.A. Hanna Mining Company for 44 years, retiring as a control room operator.  He enjoyed reading, walking partridge trails with Joan, tinkering in the basement, cards games, and his three granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Hibbing; a daughter, Elizabeth Layman of Greenville, NC; 2 sons, Daniel (Cheryl) Nehiba of Hibbing and Steven (Cindy) Nehiba of Mountain Iron, MN; 3 granddaughters:  Danelle (Nick) Ongaro, Lindsey Nehiba, and Katie Rose Nehiba; a sister, Madonna (Chester) Danich of Hibbing, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers Fabian Nehiba, Arnold Nehiba, Bernard “Tuffy” Nehiba, Robert “Jimmy” Nehiba; and a sister, Margaret Barlet.
At Richard’s request, a private family funeral service will be held.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  To sign the guest register online, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com.
