Richard L. Wiener

Richard L. Wiener, 78, a beloved resident of Hibbing, passed away on March 12, 2024, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL. Born on August 11, 1945, in Thief River Falls, MN, to Robert and Bernice (Strand) Wiener. Later his family moved to Kelly Lake, MN, where he grew up.  Richard proudly served his country in the US Navy as a communication messenger aboard the USS Coral Sea II. Richard L. Wiener was previously married to Sharon Biewer and they were blessed with a son, Brett. On August 18, 1979, Rick entered the Sacrament of Marriage with J.V. (Treffeisen) Wiener. The marriage took place in San Mateo, CA and together Rick and J.V. raised their family in Hibbing, MN.

Rick was the owner and operator of WEAR-TEK of Midwest, an industrial supply company. He was a dedicated member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, as well as various organizations including the MSRA, Hibbing Trap Club, Cherry Timing Association, Kelly Lake Youth Hockey and Hibbing men's hockey league after discharge from the Navy. Rick had a passion for building street rods, attending classic car shows, trap shooting, hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling at the deer shack.

He is survived by his wife, J.V. Wiener, children Brett (DeDe) Wiener, Alyssa (David) Weber, and Kyle/Casper (Angel)  Lotus, siblings Ronald J. (Marie) Wiener, Carol (Noel) Nerland, Russell (Dorothy) Wiener, and Audrey (Michael) Sparby, along with many nieces and nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Bernice, and his ex-wife Sharon. Funeral services for Rick will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Bill Skarich, with visitation from 10:00 am until the 12:00 noon Mass at the church on Monday. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, please have Masses said in Rick's honor through the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate; oblatesusa.org.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
