Richard R. Zbacnik Sr., 80, Shoal Lake, formerly of Leetonia died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN.  He was born on September 10, 1935 to Fred and Mary (Bauer) Zbacnik in Hibbing.  Richard attended Hibbing schools and later proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Richard had been a resident of Shoal lake for the past 26 years, and previously lived in Leetonia for 20 years.  He was employed as a plant foreman for National Steel retiring after 32 years of service.  He entered the sacrament of Marriage with Isla “Toots” Hatfield and was married to her for 63 years.  Richard loved his home on Shoal Lake, he enjoyed gardening, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and his family time was very important to him.

Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Isla Mae “Toots”, Shoal Lake, MN, 3 children, Richard (Kim) Zbacnik Jr., Chisholm, MN, Jeffrey Lewis (Patty) Zbacnik, Thief River Falls, MN, and Tracey (Darrin) Goetzfried, Bismarck, ND, sister, Patsy Miller, Kelly Lake, MN, seven grandchildren, Timothy Zbacnik, Kristina (Brian Fredrickson) Zbacnik, Jeffrey (Serena) Zbacnik, Andrew (Joyce) Zbacnik, Adam Goetzfried, Ashley Goetzfried, and Aliya Goetzfried, three great-grandchildren, Aerianna Zbacnik, Matthew Fredrickson, and Arthur Zbacnik, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Fred Zbacnik, and sister, Frances Champa.

Per Richard’s wishes there will be a private graveside service held at Nashwauk Cemetery at a later date.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
