Robert W. Alms, 87, Hibbing joined his wife, Caroline Alms, who died on Sept. 20, 2013, on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing.  He was born on June 21, 1926 to William and Frieda (Taggetz) Alms in Denhoff, ND.  Robert had been a resident of Hibbing for the past 60 years.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years during WWII.  He was employed as a sheet metal worker for Range Cornice in Hibbing.  He was a member of VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing, First Lutheran Church in Hibbing, and the local sheet metal workers union.  Robert was known for his excellent gardening skills, canning, and his faithful devotion of time spent working at the church, but most of all, Robert was very much a family man. His children and grandchildren were everything to him.  He was always there for the grandkids, and made sure that they were well taken care of, especially his many hours of his free repair service, fixing anything and everything for his children and grandkids.
Robert is survived by his three children: Lyle R. Alms, Gayle Alms, and Shelly (Ann Broussard) Alms, all of Hibbing, his sister, Glorianne (Don) Loeslie, Warren, MN., his special lovely family member, Marcia Betters, Hibbing, his three grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Oscarson, Waconia, MN, Cathy Buus, and Jeremy Alms, both of Hibbing, his four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Isaac, and Gavin Oscarson, and Caleb Buus, and a special mention to his extra special caregiver, his wife, Caroline Alms.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Caroline M. Alms who passed away on September 20, 2013, his parents, William and Frieda (Taggetz) Alms, and his sister, Dorothy Hightower.
Funeral services for Robert will be held at at 12:00 noon, Friday, October 11, 2013 at  First Lutheran Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Larry Quanbeck will officiate.  Deacon Richard Johnston will also participate.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
