Robert "Bob" D. Dostal

Robert “Bob” D. Dostal, 75, Virginia, MN, formerly of Hibbing died Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Essentia Health-Virginia, MN. He was born July 5, 1949, to Fredrick and Virginia (Smith) Dostal in Chisholm, MN. Bob attended Hibbing schools. After graduating in 1967, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Bob was employed as a maintenance employee with the US Postal Service in Chisholm. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing and the Mesaba Country Club where he set the record for most rounds played in one given season. Bob was fascinated with NASA, the stars, astronomy, and astrology. He enjoyed playing bingo as well, but most of all, he cherished his grandchildren very much. 

He is survived by his wife, Carolann Dostal, Virginia, MN, daughters, Beth (Allen) Hietala, Chisholm, MN, and Dorothy “Gina” (Merlin) Middlestead, Virginia, MN, siblings, Tom (Nancy) Dostal, Chisholm, MN, Jim (Mary Autry) Dostal, Brooklyn Park, MN, Clarice Trembath, Pine City, MN, and Sharon (David) Bicanich, Minneapolis, MN, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Virginia (Smith) Dostal, his first wife, Darlene Dostal, and three grandchildren, Kevin Dostal, Nathan Middlestead, and Alex Hietala.

A gathering of family and friends for Bob will be from 5-7 pm, Monday, December 23, 2024, with Military Honors accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery of Virginia, MN.
