Rodney E. Elsner, 69, of Hibbing, MN, passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at the Hibbing Hospital on July 15, 2024. He was born on February 8, 1955 in Virginia, MN, to Merle and Darlene (Anderson) Elsner. Rodney was a lifelong Iron Ranger. He attended Hibbing High School and graduated in 1973. During and after high school, he worked at the family’s business, F&D meats, for 20+ years. He then went to barber school in Minneapolis and became a licensed barber. He went on to own and operate JR's Barber Shop at the Mesabi Mall for close to 20 years, until he retired. Rodney was an avid outdoorsmen as he loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed working in his woodshop, going for rides on his motorcycle, attending high school hockey games, and relaxing in his yard swing. Rodney was very proud of being 47 years sober and was active in Alcoholics Anonymous, helping others. He adored his family and was proud to be a Papa. Rodney is survived by his children: Krist Elsner, Amber (Joseph) Tangen, Beckie (Tim) Kohlhaas; grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Kyle), Jadyn, Isaac, Gracie, Calvin, Kelin, Abbey; great-granddaughter Rylan, and many other extended family and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Mark and Jerome Elsner.
There will be a gathering for family and friends on Monday, July 22nd, 2024. This will be held at the Dougherty Funeral Home, in Hibbing, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. There will be a private interment at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
