HIBBING _ Roger E. Saccoman, 80, died in Hibbing on Sunday, July 28, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on Feb. 10, 1944, to Bert and Ruth Saccoman and was a lifelong resident of Hibbing. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1962, Hibbing Junior College in 1964 and North Dakota State University in 1968 with a degree in Architecture. He was a principal at Architectural Resources in Hibbing in the 1970s and early 1980s before leaving in 1983 to become the director of the Hibbing Housing and Redevelopment Authority. In 1986, he started his own architectural firm, Roger Saccoman Architecture, Ltd., in Hibbing, which he ran until retiring in 2022.He was a founding member of the Hibbing Foundation and served as its board chair for 30years; American Institute of Architects (AIA) Northern MN, past president; Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority board member; lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and served on its board; Save the Androy Committee; Greater Mesabi Men’s Book Club and Swan Lake Country Club. Over the years with the Hibbing Foundation, he most enjoyed spending time researching and creating ways to empower the Iron Range city he loved most. In addition, he also enjoyed participating in local and state politics, reading, golfing, gardening and watching his grandchildren’s activities. He was a big fan of all Minnesota sports.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Hoffman Saccoman of Hibbing and children, John (Becky) Saccoman, LaPrairie, MN; J.P. (Katie) Saccoman, Shakopee, MN; Jennifer (Matt) Erickson, Champlin, MN; John, J.P. and Jennifer’s mother Jeannie Saccoman-Crain, Minnetonka, MN; Austin (Sandra Jauregui-Diaz) English, Midland, TX and Brittany (Tim) Johnson; Terre Haute, IN; sister-in-law Shirley Andreason of Coon Rapids, MN; Brothers-in-law, Dr. John Hoffman, Hibbing and Mike Hoffman of Casper, WY; Grandchildren, Lily and Jack Saccoman; Charlie, Tyler and Mackenzie Saccoman; Oliver, Elsie and Oskar Erickson; Hugo Nicholas Goncalves-Jauregui and Westin, Londyn and Jasmin Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Ruth Saccoman; brother Jack Saccoman; sister Bertie Lindstrom and brother-in-law Del Lindstrom.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Chaplin Greg Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. A lunch will follow in the fellowship hall of Our Savior’s. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the direct care staff at Guardian Angels in Hibbing for taking such good care of Roger.
