Ronald “Ron” J. Maki, age 87, of Toivola, MN, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at The Waterview Woods Care Center in Eveleth, MN. He was born in Toivola, MN, on October 24, 1937, to John and Helmie (Ranta) Maki.
Ron was born and raised in the Toivola area and graduated from the Toivola High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 -1960 and was stationed in France. Ron met his soon-to-be wife Gloria Hietala, and they married on February 26, 1972, and together they raised their two children. He was a member of the Kral Matha Peterson VFW Post 3044, and the Hope Lutheran Church in Toivola, MN. Ron enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, gardening, enjoying his sauna that he built himself, hunting various species, spending time with his family, and his trips to check on the beaver dam.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Tom) Huhn; grandchildren, Tiffany (Ryan) Olsen, Jessica (Joe) Maki, Justin (Kim) Huhn, Courtney (Nate) Maki, and Jeff (Nissa) Huhn; 8 great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria Maki; siblings, Eugene Maki and Marlet Olds; son, Michael Maki.
Funeral Services will be at 11am on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Hope Lutheran Church in Toivola, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11am at the church. Pastor Larry Anderson will officiate the service and a private burial will be held at a later date at the Toivola Cemetery.
