Rose Passeri
Rose Passeri, 95, of Hibbing, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2017 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids, after a brief stay.
She was born on March 9, 1922 to Savo and Vasa Shock and grew up in Nashwauk with her seven siblings. She had a happy childhood and Nashwauk always held a fond place in her heart. At a dance one evening, she spotted a handsome Italian with curly hair, and the rest is history. She married Emilio (Coxie) Passeri on December 7th, 1941 and they shared 52 happy years together. Most will remember her as a helpful clerk at Feldman’s Department Store where she worked for 19 years and made lasting friendships.
She was an avid bridge player for over 50 years and belonged to many clubs. Many of her closest friends and most rewarding relationships were among her fellow bridge players. She loved to volunteer, and enjoyed working with the Hibbing Chamber of Commerce, Lutheran Social Services and Ironworld.
Some of her best days were when she joined Tony’s Iron Range Tamburitzans, playing her tambura and dancing the kolo at festivals around the country, treasuring her Serbian heritage. A favorite pastime was cooking and baking while singing to the radio, which was always playing in the kitchen. Among her many wonderful dishes, pasta fagioli (bean soup) and homemade macaroni and cheese remain family favorites.
Family meant everything to her, and she dearly loved the Shock family, Passeri and Bugliosi families with equal endearment. She was an exceptional mom and grandma, who was totally involved in the lives of her loved ones. She never missed a birthday, holiday, special event or ceremony great or small. She relished every joy that family life could bring.
She is survived by her daughters Linda Lee and Susie Novak, grandchildren Courtney (Scott) Pernat, Lindsay (Tom )Phil, Anthony and Natalie Novak, great grandchildren Maddy and Caroline Pernat and Norah and Jake Pihl, special nieces Gail Klarich and Kathy Ruemmele, who were like daughters to her, as well as many other beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend thanks to Hillcrest Adams where she resided for the last three years, for the special care they gave to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emilio, baby Donna Jean, her parents, brothers Ugo, George, John and Stan Shock, sisters Donna Bonovich, Sophie Foster and Dorothy Michels.
The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 10, at 12:00 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
