Rose Barbara Pocrnich
Rose B. Pocrnich, 90, Hibbing, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, MN, surrounded by her family. She was born in Chisholm, MN on July 18, 1922, the seventh child of eight children born to Daniel and Cecelia Rukavina. After graduating from Chisholm High School, Rose completed a business course and worked for the war department in Washington D.C. She was united in marriage to Ivan Pocrnich and they made their home in Hibbing. Rose was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was the heart of her family. She will always be remembered for her unconditional love, optimism, willingness to help, and her kind and gentle spirit.
She is survived by five children: Kathy Pocrnich of Wyoming, MN, Jane (John) Kokotovich of Hibbing, Dan (Kathy) Pocrnich of Minnetonka, MN, Bob (Lisa) Pocrnich of Mahtomedi, MN, and Connie Shimek of Northfield, MN; 11 grandchildren: Katie (Jeff) Benson, Mike (Jenn) Kokotovich, Andy Wetherill, Kelly (Chris Gray) Kokotovich, John (Kristen) Pocrnich, Jim Shimek, Christine Pocrnich, Tom Pocrnich, Michael Pocrnich, Elizabeth (Tony Mikula) Shimek, and Emily Pocrnich; five great-grandchildren: Mitchell, Joel, and Grant Benson, Landon Bender, and Drake Wetherill; her first great-granddaughter due in May of 2013; her longtime companion, George Bonicatto of Hibbing; and numerous relatives. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Pocrnich, in 1989; by her parents; by 7 siblings: Dan, John, George, Frank, Agnes, Jen, and Mary; and by a son-in-law, Joseph Shimek.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 19, 2013, from 10—11 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing.
