Rose “Becka” Harvotich
Rose “Becka” Harvotich, 83, Hibbing, died Friday, August 21, 2015, at Guardian Angels Health Care Center, Hibbing. She was born at home in Leetonia on Sept. 22, 1931, to Joe and Mildred Knezovich. Becka was united in marriage to Emil Harvotich and had worked for St. Louis County as a home health care aide with the elderly. When her work day ended, Becka would go home and take care of her family, then, unpaid and on her own time, she would return to the homes of those she cared for to ensure that their evening needs were met. She loved gardening, reading, and working with the elderly as a care-giver. She had attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and later in life, as a proud Serbian, she reconnected with St. Basil’s Orthodox Church in Chisholm. Becka truly lived the old adage—“service to others is the greatest gift of all.”
She is survived by three sons: George (Sherry) Harvotich of Apple Valley, Frank (Mary Jo) Harvotich of Minneapolis, and Steve Harvotich of Eagan, MN; a daughter-in-law, Gail Rovinsky; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; by two sons, Emil “Butch” Harvotich, Jr. and Rick “Bear” Harvotich; by her parents, Joe and Mildred; and by three siblings: Milan Knezovich, Mary Suzick, and Madeline Oresek.
A graveside service for Becka will be held at 11 AM Monday, August 24, 2015, at Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Anyone is welcome to attend. A memorial gathering will also be held at a later date.
